KATIE DONNISON
BACP Registered Member (407179) – British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy
Katie has over seven years of experience working as a trauma informed psychotherapeutic counsellor. She is an integrative therapist and does not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Instead, Katie tailors her work to each individual, drawing on different therapeutic methods depending on a client’s needs, goals, and circumstances. She also holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Psychology, providing a strong academic foundation and a deeper understanding of human thinking and behaviour.
Katie’s primary training is in Transactional Analysis (TA), a psychotherapeutic approach that focuses on self-awareness, communication patterns, and how we relate to others. Alongside TA, she works integratively and incorporates a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person-centred and humanistic counselling, imagery and metaphor work, two-chair work, and mindfulness practices. This flexible approach allows therapy to adapt and evolve as clients progress.
She is particularly experienced in using creative methods to bring therapy to life. This may include imagery, visual or written exercises, or experiential techniques such as two-chair work. While talking is often deeply therapeutic, Katie recognises that creative approaches can sometimes access thoughts and feelings that are difficult to express in words, helping clients gain clarity and insight in new ways.
Katie has experience supporting individuals with substance misuse, grief and loss, pregnancy-related concerns, including anxiety, depression, prenatal and postpartum experiences, trauma, PTSD, domestic abuse, parenting challenges, and eating disorders.
